ABOUT THE JOB
 
Position Type: 
  • Full time (32-40 hours/week)
  • Permanent 
Compensation: $26.00 - $30.00/hour, commensurate with experience

Job Summary
The Manager of Development & Communications (MDC) works directly with the Development Team to ensure day to day tasks of the team are complete. The MDC oversees and assists with the work of the Development Coordinator and Communications Coordinator, planning and implementing fundraising campaigns, and events to meet the marketing needs of Mission Possible. This position will take a key role in the fund development of the organization, and provides consistency to the Development team, managing productivity and ensuring smooth and regular communication internally and externally.

Working Conditions
The MDC will report to the Director of Development & Communications, and will work closely with other members of the Leadership Team, the ERP Team, and other Mission Possible staff. They will interact with community partners, volunteers, and program participants. Most work will take place in the Mission Possible office, and require a great deal of attention to detail and a sharp memory. Some indoor and outdoor off-site work may occur for events.


Key Areas of Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
 
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Work with Development Team to achieve strategic goals
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the MP’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion priorities, ensuring that diverse audiences are represented, promoted, and engaged
  • Work closely with the Director of Development and Communications to determine team capacity and needs
  • Supervise and support direct reports to ensure goal attainment, including conducting  1:1 check-ins, quarterlies, & annual performance reviews
  • Support volunteers, practicum students, and other assistants in their roles, including answering questions, delegating tasks, mentoring and helping them with tasks as needed
Fundraising & Project Management
  • Create, plan, adapt, and execute fundraising campaigns such as the seasonal campaigns, Annual Gala, and Community Clean Day
    • Maintain the campaign calendar including communication and logistics
  • Research best practices for acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship of donors, and create/execute plans accordingly
  • Maintain periodic website updates and ensure ease in making a donation
  • Delegation and tracking of tasks to team members as needed
    • Recruit staff and volunteers to support
  • Development Team tasks and needs
  • Assist with auction management including securing and tracking silent auction and raffle prizes, managing correspondence with prize donors during the planning stage and with prize winners after the event
Data Tracking
  • Manage and maintain metrics, stats, and information in an organized fashion to inform fundraising decisions
  • Share relevant stats/info with other teams
  • Create and manage Expense Sheets for events
  • Maintain process documentation and develop new documentation as needed
Communications
  • Oversee website updates, Annual Report, and newsletters
  • Assist with generation of physical print material and social media content ideas, and execution as needed
  • Interview past and present program participants and write stories for marketing and awareness collateral
  • Correspond with donors by phone, email, and/or mail

Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Development & Communications

ABOUT YOU

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Team management & leadership abilities
  • Fundraising, communications and event experience
  • Donor management experience
  • Software management skill (CRM, Website etc.)
  • A professional and outgoing manner and ability to interact respectfully with all individuals
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate for meetings and events on evenings and weekends as needed
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, Google Suite and Canva
  • Graphic design experience an asset
  • Valid class 5 Driver’s licence and clean abstract is an asset

Education and Experience

  • 2-4 years experience working in non-profit environment, fundraising and/or communications
  • Supervision or project management experience
  • Experience working in the Downtown Eastside community is an asset
  • Previous experience with grant writing and research an asset
  • Relevant post-secondary education, Diploma or post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g. communications, marketing, fundraising, non-profit)
  • Or the equivalent combination of related skills and experience
