Transforming Lives Through Inclusive Hiring with CleanStart

For nearly half a century, Strand, a Vancouver-based finance and development company, has built a reputation for successful real estate investment throughout North America. The collective experience of their team has allowed Strand to develop a profound knowledge of market dynamics and local trends, allowing for the successful realization of their business and community-based objectives.
As a company that is committed to investing in the communities in which they both live and build, Strand has been a loyal advocate of Mission Possible since 2018. Mike Mackay, President of Strand, has volunteered and given back to the local community throughout his life. Not only is he personally committed to serving in the community, but so too are the people at Strand, with serving others forming a core value of their business. As such, Strand has contributed significantly to the Employment Readiness Program at Mission Possible (MP), helping 10 MP Associates start and complete the program. As expressed by Mike, “Mission Possible is an organization that creates lasting change in the DTES while providing opportunities for so many to get back on their feet and restore a sense of dignity and purpose in their lives .”
As a dedicated Gold Partner of the Mission Possible Gala, we were grateful to have Strand return again in 2021. Jenna Macdonald, Marketing and Sales Manager at Strand, said: “The most impactful and sentimental part of the evening for me was hearing first-hand the personal stories from the individuals whose lives have been positively changed by Mission Possible. It was truly inspiring.”
Additionally, Strand has committed to supporting Mission Possible’s upcoming fundraiser, The Cleanest Day of the Year, as a $5,000 Gold Sponsor. Their generosity will go towards raising $150,000 to support 30 people in starting, and finishing, our Employment Readiness Program.
Sh’eli Mullin, Executive Assistant at Strand, noted that “As a company, we are always looking for ways to get involved in our surrounding communities. Not only will we be volunteering in the area most crucial to Mission Possible’s work, the Downtown Eastside, but it will allow us to spread awareness of issues facing members of the community to our inner circles and networks, whether it be partners, colleagues, friends, or even our children. It’s a wonderful opportunity to show that everyone can make a positive impact if we work together!”
Here at Mission Possible, we are extremely thankful for partners like Strand who allow us to continue helping people on their journey towards sustainable livelihoods through the programs and resources we offer. Without their kindness and devotion to giving back to their community, we would not be able to support as many people as we do!
The Mission Possible Gala and The Cleanest Day of the Year are two of the largest fundraisers we hold at Mission Possible and are crucial to our efforts for increasing awareness of our organization.
If you would like to become a partner for any of these events, donate items off our Needs List, or are curious to find out more about how to get involved, please contact development@mission-possible.ca
