Providing someone with an opportunity to work can transform their life, and that is the sentiment that founder, Dylan Goggs, built his company, CleanStart, on. Starting with one small pick-up truck and two employees from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, CleanStart has grown to become an award winning social enterprise that provides comprehensive property services while offering employment opportunities to those who need it. From junk removal to pest control to janitorial services, CleanStart meets the needs of their community in multiple ways.
For many years, Mission Possible and CleanStart have collaborated on projects, and been part of numerous working groups together. Most recently, CleanStart became an Employer of graduated Mission Possible associates. With a shared mission of providing meaningful work to people facing barriers, this partnership was a no brainer!
Kurt Johnston, CleanStart’s CEO, shares “One of the most noticeable differences we find when hiring an MP graduate is they come ready to work! The on-boarding and training goes a lot faster and smoother, as they come in uniform, on time, familiar with the area, and ready to work. They are also great team members, always positive and supportive.” This makes MP associates the perfect addition to CleanStart’s amazing team of loyal and hardworking employees.
Motivated by addressing issues like housing and high cost of living seen across the world, Johnston shares “... Barriers to employment are just that: they are structural forces preventing many from just getting their foot in the door. They aren’t stopping people from doing their job well. Quite the opposite, in fact.”
CleanStart and Mission Possible have a shared understanding that giving people a chance to show their potential has the ability to change lives. Our Employment Engagement Coordinator, Tyler shares, "CleanStart gives our graduated associates another chance to increase their existing skills, and acquire new ones. I enjoy collaborating with CleanStart because we're both working to highlight the resiliency, hard work, and reliability of the community in the Downtown Eastside."
We at Mission Possible are grateful for the support that Johnston and CleanStart have shown towards our Employment Readiness Program and it’s associates!
